The high-level week of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly will feature a meeting of the UNGA Platform of Women Leaders. This year’s theme is “Transformative Solutions by Women Leaders to Today’s Interlinked Challenges”. Women Heads of State and Government will be invited to share experiences executing decisive and inclusive leadership and policies, with recommendations for building solutions to interrelated and complex crises that respond to society’s needs.

As the world faces complex and interlinking challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic, humanitarian crises of unprecedented nature, a tipping point in climate change, as well as growing concerns about threats to our global economy, it is more crucial than ever to ensure women and men are equally represented in policy and decision-making.

The event is hosted by the Offices of the President of the General Assembly for the 77th and 76th sessions and UN Women.

When: Tuesday, 20 September 2022, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm.

Where: Trusteeship Council Chamber of the United Nations Headquarters, New York.

Who: Confirmed participants to date include:

  • Several women Heads of State and Government attending UNGA High Level week
  • Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th session of the General Assembly
  • Mr. Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th session of the General Assembly
  • Ms. Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women

Media Opportunities:

This will be an in-person meeting with live streaming via UN Web TV: https://media.un.org/en/webtv

Background:

The UNGA Platform of Women Leaders is a special initiative that invites all current women Heads of State and Government to discuss priority issues on the international community’s agenda and identify solutions to today’s complex and interlinked challenges.

The UNGA Global Platform of Women Leaders stems from a meeting on 21 September 2021, between women Heads of State and Government and Mr. Abdulla Shahid, the President of the 76th session of the General Assembly.  The aim of that meeting was to place gender equality at the forefront of the multilateral arena.
