At the current rate of progress and in light of multiple global crises, it may take centuries to achieve full gender equality, according to the “Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2022”, a new report produced jointly by UN Women and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA).

The 2022 Gender Snapshot brings together the latest available evidence on gender equality and women’s empowerment across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the progress made since 2015, but also the most recent setbacks, including the pandemic of COVID-19 and its aftermath, the impacts of climate change and conflict, and the backlash on women’s reproductive rights.

WHO:

  • Anita Bhatia, Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director for UN Coordination, Partnerships, Resources and Sustainability
  • Maria-Francesca Spatolisano, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs, UN DESA
  • Katie Tobin, Senior Programme Manager, Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO)
