Repository UN Women’s work on Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls
For 15 years, UN Women’s Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls Global Initiative, has worked with women’s organizations and community groups, local, regional and national governments, UN agencies, and other partners to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive approaches to prevent and respond to sexual harassment against women and girls in public spaces in different settings.
Building safe and sustainable cities with women and girls is not only an urban development challenge, but also fundamentally a gender equality, human rights, and sustainable development imperative, linked directly to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on gender equality, SDG 11 on sustainable cities, and other SDGs, The New Urban Agenda, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the Beijing Platform for Action.
This repository brings together UN Women’s knowledge products produced as part of the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Global Initiative, along with other key resources, including relevant corporate evaluations, city feature stories, and videos.
