This poster presents a global snapshot of women’s representation in political executive leadership as of 1 January 2026, covering women Heads of State, Heads of Government, and Cabinet ministers heading ministries. It highlights continuing gender gaps in executive decision-making worldwide.

Globally, 28 countries are led by women Heads of State and/or Government. Women account for just 22.4 per cent of Cabinet ministers worldwide, marking a second consecutive year of decline. Significant regional disparities persist, with all regions falling short of reaching parity.

The data also reveal enduring gender stereotypes in the allocation of ministerial portfolios: women remain concentrated in social sector ministries, such as gender equality, family affairs, and social inclusion, while men continue to dominate over influential portfolios including defence, finance, energy, and home affairs.
