In 2000, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted resolution 1325, recognizing the importance of upholding women’s rights in armed conflict and ensuring women’s participation in all aspects of peace and security. Twenty-five years later, the world recorded the highest number of armed conflicts since 1945, with unprecedented levels of harm inflicted on women and girls.

Every year, the UN Secretary-General presents a report to the UNSC detailing the status of the women, peace and security agenda in the world. This year’s report contains more than 100 facts and figures, with topics ranging from women’s participation in peace processes and decision-making in conflict-affected countries, to the impact of conflict on women and girls, including atrocities that target them disproportionately, such as conflict-related sexual violence.

This infographic, prepared by UN Women, highlights a few of these facts and figures, along with recommendations for the UNSC, the United Nations, and Member States.
